ShareWine Burgundy Tasting at Formel B

The tasting was held by ShareWine in June 2024. Thank you to all participants.

An Evening with the Stars

To say we were looking forward to this line-up would be an understatement! It's not every day we bring together Raveneau, Ramonet, PYCM, Girardin, Bruno Clair, Rousseau, Pacalet, Koji, and Cossard for a collective dance! And what a dance it was. Both expectations and the atmosphere were at their peak, and to everyone's delight, all the wines performed spectacularly, showcasing why the masters behind them are truly top-class!

Performance to the Max

Below, you can read more about how the evening’s line-up performed:

Raveneau Petit Chablis 2018 MG

One thing is certain... Chablis serves well as a palate cleanser with its classic high acidity and minerality. Despite the "Petit" on the label, Raveneau ensures our senses are calibrated from the first sniff. The nose is expressive with a full circle citrus palette of salted lemon, dried lemon peel, and lemon curd, followed by a beautiful acidity in the mouth, limestone, fresh and lightly poached pear wrapped in a rich, creamy texture.

Ramonet Meursault-Blagny 2020

What... Ramonet makes Meursault? Yes! A single Meursault from the 1er Cru vineyard Blagny has sneaked into the portfolio of the legendary Chassagne house. And not only is it unique there, but it also stands out among the subsequent wines with its crisper, more vertical style. The intensity is high and sharp, rushing over the palate so quickly that it tickles and bites the entire mouth. The aroma and flavor are very subtle with salty citrus notes and small chamomile flowers.

Jean Chartron Meursault 2020

Chartron's Meursault also shows great precision but is much more horizontal in the mouth, spreading softly across the entire palate. The grapes come from Tillet and Narvaux, which is reflected in the intensity - really high village level!! Compared to Ramonet, this is a smoother operator, with the oak perfectly integrated, leaving a hint of toast and hazelnuts on the nose, complemented by delicate notes of ripe pear and peach, citrus oil, white flowers, and a long salty finish.

Pierre Girardin Meursault Narvaux 2020

There's a lot of buzz around PVG in more than one way. A young gentleman with a penchant for the modern, already well on his way to the stars! This wine is also eager to make its mark in the world and is thus right in your face. You can sense the power from the nose, where the oak is more pronounced than in the other wines and the fruit is more on the ripe side, not hiding at all. This was perhaps the only one of the four wines we guessed the vintage correctly. A creamy wine with great character and clear Meursault DNA.

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault 2020

Whatever recipe "Per Ove" follows, we hope he continues because it just works, and therefore the wine deserves to be described with all the superlatives that jumped onto the page as quickly as the wine poured out of the glass: fantastically smooth mouthfeel, razor-sharp acidity, lots of depth and length. Broad-spectrum but damn well-balanced, and equally a patchwork of crispy citrus, stone fruits, sea salt, soft light toffee, and subtle spices... even though the wine doesn’t want to let go in the mouth, you can still sense there’s more to come... another gear still held in reserve. The SW team once again had to surrender to PYCM and declare the evening's white favorite found.

Conclusion on White 2020

All the evening's whites deliver clear evidence that they were harvested at the perfect time. Hallelujah for 2020 with this sharpness!
