The winery was founded in 1900 in Monforte d'Alba by Giacomo, descendant of a family of winemakers active since 1800. His son Giovanni was the first to bottle Barolo Monfortino in 1912, masterfully packaged from selected grapes of the area. At the time, the wine, sold in barrels or demijohns, was rarely found in bottles. In 1934 Giacomo produced Barolo Monfortino, so called to remember the house of Monforte d'Alba. Here the vineyard is cultivated with traditional systems: careful pruning, elimination of excess bunches, defoliation to allow the passage of sun and air on the grapes, harvesting in the best period. In short, simple and ancient measures very useful for obtaining wines of excellent level. The wine that comes from this exceptional soil does not need forcing. In fact, it is sufficient to enhance to the maximum what nature has made available. This is the philosophy of the Giacomo Conterno Winery, which is certainly an ambassador of Italian excellence in the world. Produced only in the best years) - they are legendary wines very expensive but able to make you touch the sky with a finger. Conterno's Barolo "Riserva Monfortino" is one of the great ambassadors of the Italian wine world. Obtained from Nebbiolo grapes grown in an area particularly suited for micro territory and climate. Barolo with a classic and traditional style, with a beautiful intense garnet red color and elegantly transparent, it presents itself to the nose with an intense, broad, spicy and balsamic aroma, with notes of ripe red fruit, cherry, with hints of leather, licorice, tobacco, black pepper and truffle. A wine of great complexity and personality, of great balance and body, persistent and of great elegance on the palate. Ideal to drink in combination with red meats, roasts and braised meats, game and medium and long-aged cheeses
