Bertani Amarone 1998
/ #3660001Stored in the cellar and then wine refrigerator. Bertani launched his first Recioto di Valpolicella Amarone in the late 60s. It was vintage 1958, and in the following years this wine became an icon in the Italian wine world - the very symbol that Italy can now perform in line with the best from France.
Bartani's Amarone ripens in the legendary years from the early 60's until the early 80's up to 10 years in large Slovenian barrels before being bottled and released for sale. As a type, it is a much drier Amarone type than those most seen today, and at the same time this is one of Italy's most durable wines. A wine that you would like to entrust an extra decade in a bottle, even if the wine in the glass is 25 years or older.
It is this legendary durability that has created Bertani's reputation. Countless times it has been tasted against other legends and almost every time it has impressed - those who were fortunate enough to be present - with its incredible youthfulness and its almost frightening intensity and complexity. And then it is not ashamed to be the role model for what later happened in the cellars of Dal Forno, Quintarelli and Zyme.
