Edna Valley Vineyard is located just 6 km from the Pacific Ocean about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, at San Luis Obospo and Solvang - opposite the iconic Madonna Inn, which is my idea of an arch-American hotel nightmare (see photos and link).
Edna Valley was under David Niven a pioneer in the region and later became part of the Chalone Vineyards, which was the Rothschilds (Lafite) branch in California, which owned i.a. Chalone, Carmenet and Acacia in addition to Edna. In 2005, the group was sold to DIAGEO, best known for spirits (Zacapa, Smirnoff + much of the Scotch whiskey and gin / vodka industry). Edna (and Chalone) suffered under these owners. But in 2011, it was all sold to the giant Gallo. Today, Edna is one of his finest brands, But still at a reasonable price!
