Sileni "The Triangle" Merlot Single Vineyard, Hawke's Bay MAGNUM 2008

/ #608790
Size: 1.5 L (Magnum)

in original wooden box, perfect for a gift! 90p / Bob Campbell (specialist in NZ). Sileni is one of the largest owners of the "Triangle" field, a triangular piece of gravel near Napier, which is considered perhaps the best area for merlot in New Zealand.
The wine has been called New Zealand's Pomerol - except that the wine is stronger than most Pomerol - without being heavy. Climate and soil are close to Pomerol. The wine is made by the gifted Grant Edmonds and has malolactic fermentation and storage in small e4 casks. Super purchase price of 75 cl is over 100 in NZ and up to 300 in Singapore.
Sileni Estates is a relatively new name in New Zealand, founded in 1997 by Sir Graeme Avery (photo, with wife Gaby - he is a noblewoman of the Queen). The name Sileni he found in Greek mythology. Sileni was the faithful companion of the wine god Dionysus. When there was to be a feast of food and drink, Sileni was always present to dispel the good mood and get the guests to eat and drink all night long. The name thus stands for delicious food, fantastic wine and good company visualized with the triangle in the house logo. The encircling circle symbolizes the house's global outlook on life because Sileni is enjoyed by people all over the world.
Today, Sileni owns land in both Marlborough on the South Island and Hawke's Bay on the North Island. On the South Island and in Marlborough, Sileni makes world-renowned white wines on Sauvignon Blanc. The Hawke's Bay area is perhaps best known for elegant merlot and pinot noir, but Sileni also grows Pinot Gris and Chardonnay in this area.
The quality of the wines is admirably stable from year to year, and the domain is certified "sustainable", ie. sustainable operation.
